St. Gabriel Black

St. Gabriel Black

The variety was found growing in the LSU AgCenter research orchard located in St. Gabriel, Louisiana. It was brought to the broader grower community and popularized by a collector known as CajunB  rather than released directly by LSU.  Many fig collectors group it with LSU varieties because of its origin at the research station, noting it may be an unnamed hybrid or selection from their trials.  It is a medium-large, elongated purple-black fig with a sweet honey-forward and delicate pulp.  Parthenocarpic.
