Angelito

The Angelito fig is a highly sought-after, top-tier common type variety known for its exceptional, complex berry flavor and beautiful appearance.  Discovered as a seedling in California by grower Doug (known online as Bluemalibu), it belongs to the Adriatic family group and has earned a legendary reputation among fruit collectors for routinely winning "Best of Show" flavor titles.  The skin is soft, bright green, or yellowish-green.  It develops beautiful white speckles and distinctive cracks as it reaches peak maturity.  It features a strikingly deep, rich red to dark burgundy interior with a thick, jammy, and gelatinous texture.  The fruit is medium-sized with a uniform shape and a tightly closed eye, which helps protect the interior from pests and moisture.  It is widely praised for its multidimensional profile and perfect balance of sweetness and acidity delivering an intense, deep berry and strawberry jam flavor.  Some growers note a mild, tart raspberry profile upfront that transitions into a sweet candy-like finish, drawing comparisons to grape candy, cotton candy, or strawberry Kool-Aid.
